Who

Myself (John Mace). I'm currently a second year student at the University of Toronto studying English and Philosophy.

What

This space. Somewhere I can put up selected works of writing. Almost entierly because I either feel proud of them myself, or i've mentioned it in conversation and someone has asked me to.

Why

See above. Since September 2018 i've been doing more reading and writing than I could've imagined beforehand. If it's on here, i've enjoyed writing about it. Getting into the habit of putting work online - and knowing that someone else might read it - should both keep me more accountable and more focused.

How

This section was the main reason why I wrote this post. While I have a very small amount of experience working with computers, I can certianly say I owe a large portion of my knowledge on the subject to online guides and tutorials.

This site is hosted on a DigitalOcean Droplet running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. This website (johnmace.ca) is running off Apache HTTP Server and uses LetsEncrypt to get the HTTPS certification. This "blog" section of the website uses Jekyll to make, host, and structure posts. The domain (johnmace.ca) was bought through Namecheap . It took me roughly two weeks to set all this up, and there's still more to do. I currently plan on writing a more detailed tutorial on how "How to set up Jekyll on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS running Apache" sometime in the next month or so.
